The Summer of Awesome Reading (SOAR) is an exciting new literacy initiative to provide our youth books to read, discuss and own. The summer reading program has allowed Young Women of Promise through our A Promise to Read literacy initiative along with community partners in eastern North Carolina have to join forces to get youth, especially our African-American girls, excited about reading.

Our partners include ENC Voices of Youth, a youth media program in Greenville, NC; DNA Community Youth Center in Warsaw, NC; Reaching for the Stars in Washington, NC.

We are excited to share that NC Praise Radio, Inc. dba ENC Voices of Youth and Reaching for the Stars both received Summer Reading Grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Kieanna Bruinton, YWOP's  a junior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is serving at the Program Director for A Promise to Read, YWOP's literacy initiative.
