To Strengthen organizations in the African American Community to empower, unify, make changes to bring positive growth
What motivates you to serve?
I feel like I was born to serve others. I am a retired elementary school teacher and spent 39 years in communities that needed support in all areas
How has your work touched the lives of youth and others in your community
I think the greatest initiatives has been support of weekend backpack program which ensues children will have a nutrition on the weekend. The We Care House in Winston-Salem not only provide food , living needs, but also medical services through a consortium with one of the local health agency to improve health care in the community.
Do you have a personal motto or Bible verse that guides your life?
Jeremiah 29:11 I am sure God purpose has always been clear to serve others
Describe your family: (spouse, children, etc.)
I am the eldest of three siblings: 2 brothers and 1 sister. We were taught to stick together and to serve our fellowman. Our mother was a great example of that I have 4 half siblings: 3 boys and 1 girl who entered my life later and have been a joy to learn.
What advice would you offer to others wanting to serve?
Get to know the people in the community you will serve personally and never think you know what it will take to make a change. Have lots of
conversations .
